A folio is the only case that protects the screen when the phone lands face down, which is how phones usually land. That is its whole argument, and it is a strong one.

The hinge is what fails. A folio is opened and closed dozens of times a day, so the fold has to be a stitched and reinforced spine rather than a crease in a glued laminate — on cheap folios the cover separates within months and the case becomes a liability.

Card slots are useful and worth one caution we always give: a card sitting between the phone and a wireless charger will stop the charge, and in some cases warm the card. We set the slots away from the coil area for exactly that reason.
